Welcome back to Term 4. It was great to see all back happy and healthy and ready for the last term of 2020. The children are busy completing their annual yearly assessments and we look forward to viewing the results. This will give us areas to celebrate and it will also inform us on what areas we need to focus on in 2021.
Speaking of 2021…. At this time of year many start asking questions about the structure and staffing of school. Firstly, nothing is set in stone until the last week of the school year and even then changes can occur over the summer break before 0- Week in 2021. Essentially, surveys are out seeking feedback that will assist Leadership in making plans for 2021. The staff will shortly be reviewing the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) program offered at Saints.
Over the recent holidays there were a number of projects completed around the school. Painting of Yr 1 & Yr 2 rooms, a new facade to B Block, the new Undercover Fan ( thank you P & F ) and cleaning of air conditioners in readiness for the heat in Term 4.
Already students have been exposed to a number of extra – curricular experiences. There has been the swimming lessons for the junior primary classes, visitors from the Catholic Missions Directorate in Cairns, Mini-Vinnies meetings and new Kichido student leaders. These experiences and future activities value add to the learning journey at Saints.
We welcome Jule Salam as our new Indigenous Liaison Officer ( ILO ). Julie is well known and respected in the local community and I am confident Julie will make a huge contribution in supporting First Nations peoples and increasing our journey of ‘Closing the Gap’ agenda.
Covid continues to be an ever-present cloud hovering over our lives. If this pandemic is causing any issues in respect to school life and fees, please do hesitate to make contact with the school so we can have a conversation and explore ways in which we can assist.
Attendance rates continue to improve. Well done to all parents in supporting their children’s learning by ensuring children attend school as often as possible. Our goal for this year is for 80% of students to attend more than 90% of the time. ( illness or important family matters will obviously need to be considered in this statistical measurement). At the time of writing this Newsletter our school rate is 80.2%.
The school is in a great place and we continue to go from strength to strength. We are succeeding together and I thank everyone for their support and efforts.
Continue to have a great term.
Together for Saints.
