Hello Saints’ Community,
Mr Rayner is enjoying four week’s long service leave and on assembly last week, he informed the students that as a keen cricket player, he was looking forward to watching the Ashes Test match at Lord’s in England this week. However, when I have done a quick internet search to find out the cricket score, I was surprised to read that no play was possible on the first day of the second Ashes Test at Lord’s. The sides did not even manage to have the toss as persistent rain came down all day. I hope they give Mr Rayner a ticket refund and allow him to watch the match today!
Since our last newsletter, we have enjoyed participating in Catholic Education Week activities. Some of our Year 6 students received certificates from Catholic Education Services for their artwork which was displayed at the office in Cairns. The Year 6 Term 3 leaders along with Mr Mullane and I represented our school at the Western Deanery Mass in Herberton. Their conduct was exemplary, and I was proud to be with them. We enjoyed the visit from many grandparents for Grandparents Day. Thank you to everyone who was able to join us to visit classrooms and share lunch in the Junior Playground. At our ‘Many Voices, One Spirit’ whole school Mass with Fr Joby, many students enjoyed participating and singing a couple of our favourite songs. It is always fun to see everyone singing and doing the actions to accompany the music.
The Year 5 class attended the Mareeba Heritage Museum on Wednesday as they are learning about the changes in technology, our local history and the ways in which different industries have emerged and influenced settlement areas. The students particularly enjoyed the old school house display where they were able to write on slates. We had a discussion about the changes in discipline as they were surprised to learn that students would receive the cane or have a duster thrown at them if they were not attentive. If you have not taken your family to the Museum, please consider taking them as there were plenty of interactive displays to learn about our past.
Next week, we will also have Parent Teacher interviews. Please remember to book in to visit your child’s teacher so that you can see the great work being done by the students and teachers.
Welcome to Mason (Yr 3) and Brooklyn (Yr 1) who have joined our Saints’ family this week.
I hope everyone enjoys the weekend with your families.
Best wishes,
Michelle Hall
