Fees and Levies
The shortfall between the basic costs of running a school and the amount funded by governments means a reasonable fee structure is essential for Catholic schools to operate and provide the high quality of education that Catholic Education is known for and parents rightly expect.
School fees comprise Tuition Fees set by Cairns Catholic Education Services and School Levies that may include a Building Levy, Subject Levies and General Purpose Levy.
Catholic schools remain an affordable option for most families and strive to keep fees as low as possible; in fact, some parents are surprised at how affordable they are in comparison to independent/private schools, Catholic schools in southern capitals, and even kindy and day care fees.
2024 Fees and Levies are currently under review. Please contact the School for further information.
Discounts
Family discounts apply for families with more than one child attending Catholic schools in the Diocese of Cairns, for example if your child attended St Augustine’s School, Mossman and another child boarded at one of Cairns Catholic Education’s secondary colleges.
As a school in a rural location with limited access to a Catholic secondary college, St Augustine’s School also attracts a further Country School Discount.
Concessions
For those in genuine financial difficulty, concessions are available, including an automatic 70% tuition fee discount (does not apply to levies) for holders of means-tested pension and health care cards.
In keeping with Gospel values, no child will be refused a Catholic education due to genuine financial difficulty. New or existing parents who find themselves in this situation and who do not hold a concession card, are encouraged to discuss fee concessions with the school principal to apply for special consideration. This request will be treated with understanding, sensitivity and confidentiality.
It is our experience that families who are struggling financially are faithful in paying a contribution to whatever extent they can afford. It is the expectation that families with the capacity to contribute do so, so that as near to possible to full realisation of this income source can be achieved and outreach to those in need can be maintained. Catholic schools balance the need to charge fees with their historic role of providing access to quality schooling for all.
