Religious & Spiritual Development
The religious and spiritual development of a child is a partnership between child, parents and staff. Parents are encouraged to be active members of our Parish and the weekly celebration of the Eucharist. The role model of a parent can never be underestimated.
Liturgical Life
Once a fortnight all classes celebrate a Liturgy of the Word. Classes take responsibility for leading liturgies each term.
School Masses and Liturgies are also held on special occasions, such as the opening and blessing of the school year, Ash Wednesday, Easter, ANZAC Day, Mother’s Day, NAIDOC Day, Catholic Education Week, St Augustine’s Feast Day, Remembrance Day and Father’s Day. A special liturgy is held to celebrate and farewell Year 6 as they complete their time at St Augustine’s Primary School.
All parents and friends are warmly welcome to attend any of our celebrations. These are advised through the Saints Community Calendar.
Students are involved in prayer assemblies, daily prayer. A spirit of prayer is encouraged in all classrooms. Formal prayers at the level of each grade are taught as well as spontaneous prayer being very much encouraged.
Sacramental Life
In our Parish, the Sacramental program is a parish and family responsibility, supported by the school.
Children are given the opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation, Eucharist and Confirmation in Year 4, 5 & 6. The sacrament of Baptism is also offered to non-Catholic children in any year level or pre-school age children.
The Parish and school work cooperatively to help prepare the children for these Sacraments. A major part of the preparation is fulfilled in the Family Groups, a parish-assisted, parent-run program. Support is offered to parents and family groups to help parents fulfil their obligations of preparing their children for the Sacraments. Full parental involvement in these programs is mandatory, if the child is to fully comprehend the importance of these milestones in their faith journey, and ultimately, make meaningful their faith development.
All three Sacraments of Initiation are conferred at one celebration near the end of the first semester. The Religious Education program taught at St Augustine’s School supplements the Parish Sacramental Preparation program.
